Important Information Regarding Mandatory Minimum Qualification Requirements
From 1 January 2018, all residential care workers will be required to hold a mandatory minimum qualification to undertake their role as a residential care worker in Victoria.
Under the minimum qualification requirements for residential care workers, all workers providing direct care to children and young people in a department-operated or funded residential care home will need to:
- Hold a Certificate IV in Child, Youth and Family Intervention (Residential and out of home care), including an accredited trauma unit of competency; OR
- Be undertaking a Certificate IV in Child, Youth and Family Intervention (Residential and out of home care), and have completed the mandatory units of competency; OR
- Hold, or be undertaking, a qualification recognised as relevant to residential care and have completed the mandatory units of competency.
